Clearcast
Product Label SDS Sheet

Clearcast® is a unique aquatic herbicide that controls both submersed and emergent weeds in and around ponds, lakes, reservoirs, wetlands, ditches, canals, and other aquatic sites.

How It Works

The active ingredient in Clearcast is absorbed through the leaves, stems and roots of vegetation. It binds with an enzyme found only in plants, and not found in humans, mammals, birds, fish or insects. Sensitive plants stop growing within 24 hours after treatment, and then slowly break down as food and energy reserves are exhausted. The rate at which plants age varies with plant size and growth habit.

Clearcast has a very favorable environmental profile, and is classified as practically nontoxic to birds, fish, algae and aquatic invertebrates.

It's the only herbicide on the market that has been granted a tolerance exemption by the EPA, which means there are no food residue limits for Clearcast in fish, shellfish, crustaceans, or irrigated crops.

Flexible Application, Minimal Restrictions

Clearcast may be applied in a variety of ways, including directly to the water for the control of submerged aquatic plant species; as a foliar application specifically for emergent and floating species; and via ground and aerial equipment, including both fixed-wing and helicopter.

When applying a foliar application by boat, the boat trail must be adequately sprayed after passing through. Clearcast is also a great tank-mix partner with many other aquatic herbicides.

Drawdown Application

Apply Clearcast as a broadcast spray at rates up to 1 gallon (128 ounces) per acre or as a spot spray treatment with up to 5% Clearcast by volume. Applications should be made when water has receded and exposed soil is moist to dry. When treating irrigation canals, the initial flush of recharge water after application must not be used for irrigation purposes.

Foliar Applications

To make foliar applications targeting emergent weeds, uniformly apply with calibrated broadcast or spot treatment equipment in 10 or more gallons of water per acre. Spot treatments can be made up to 5% Clearcast herbicide by volume. There are no irrigation restrictions on allowable sites for the use of treated water from flowing waters, such as irrigation canals with an average depth of 4 or more feet, for application to emergent weeds.

*Consult Label for Exact Doses & Important Application Directions.

For Best Results

Use  a non-ionic surfactant such as Cygnet Plus for all emergent, floating or shorline applicaitons.

Begin application in spring as water temperature warms to 60º F and above. Early treatment when growth first appears or begins to create a nuisance will reduce the amount of CLEARCAST needed. Early treatment will also reduce the amount of dead growth.

Heavy, out of control growth may require more than one application or physical removal to gain control. Apply early on the morning of a calm, sunny day. Several hours of contact time is needed.

Notices

Do not use in water containing Koi or hybrid Goldfish.

*All pesticides can be harmful to health and the environment if misused. Read the label and follow directions. Consult with your local regulatory agency before applying herbicides and algaecides to public waters. There are herbicides from other states that are either not licensed in Wisconsin or Illinois, or are not recommended by ABI.

A WI DNR Aquatic Plant Control Permit or DATCP Fish Farm License is required in WI in order to apply algaecides or herbicides. In addition ponds and lakes with overflows not contained on the property are required to obtain a WPDES permit. Illinois Residents are required to obtian NPDES permits through the Illinois EPA.

In order to apply chemicals in liquid form within Wisconsin, the applicator must be licensed with the State.

Recommendations of pesticide or treatments for specific algae or aquatic plants are provided for general information purposes only - no warranties are expressed or implied.
