Hydrothol 191 with alkylamine endothall is a selective,
rapid-acting, contact herbicide and algaecide. Very effective
against a broad spectrum of submersed weeds. Hydrothol 191 is
effective at controlling all forms of algae (filamentous, plankton,
macro) at dosage rates up to .3 PPM.
It is critical to realize that Hydrothol 191 is very toxic to
fish when applied incorrectly. Therefore, use of Hydrothol 191 is
reserved for certified aquatic applicators.
The physical form, mode of action, and general usage of
Hydrothol 191 liquid are similar to Aquathol K.
When treating lakes or ponds with Hydrothol 191 liquid begin at
the shoreline and work toward the center. Apply parallel to the
shoreline. This will herd fish away from the treated area into
deeper untreated portions of the lake or pond.
Water treated with Hydrothol 191 liquid should not be used for
irrigation or human and animal consumption for 7 to 25 days
depending on the application rate.
Hydrothol 191 is surface sprayed evenly over mat algae and
injected under the water's surface for planktonic algae,
macro-algae, and rooted vegetation. Following treatment, algae
typically will die within 1-2 days while rooted vegetation
typically requires 1-2 weeks for full effectiveness to be
Apply Hydrothol 191 at a rate of 0.7-4.0 gallons per acre/ft
(0.5-3 ppm) for control of aquatic weeds. Species-specific
application rates can be found on the Product Label.
For best results, Hydrothol 191 should be applied as early
as possible after weeds appear or when they are actively growing.
Contact time with weeds should be at least 2 hours.
Begin application in spring as water temperature warms to 50º F
and above. Early treatment when growth first appears or begins to
create a nuisance will reduce the amount of Hydrothol 191
needed. Early treatment will also reduce the amount of dead plant
material which should be removed or left to naturally decompose
allowing the nutrients within the dead plant material to be
released into the water column.
Heavy, out of control growth may require more than one
application or physical removal to gain control. For best results,
use under conditions of minimal water flow.
Treatment effectiveness depends on
density of vegetation and time of year at which the herbicide was
applied. In extreme cases 2 to 3 treatments per season of Hydrothol
191 may be needed to adequately control vegetation problems.
Do not use in water containing
Tout, Koi or hybrid Goldfish.
*All pesticides can be harmful to health and the environment
if misused. Read the label and follow directions. Consult with your
local regulatory agency before applying herbicides and algaecides
to public waters. There are herbicides from other states that are
either not licensed in Wisconsin or Illinois, or are not
recommended by ABI.
A WI DNR Aquatic Plant Control Permit or
DATCP Fish Farm License is required in WI in order to apply
algaecides or herbicides. In addition ponds and lakes with
overflows not contained on the property are required to obtain a WPDES
permit. Illinois Residents are required to obtiain NPDES
permits through the Illinois EPA.
