How Phoslock Works

Nutrient enrichment of waterbodies significantly impacts aquatic life, drinking water supplies, and recreational water quality. Excessive levels of phosphorus in water and sediments alter the balance of an aquatic ecosystem and degrade water quality. Water Quality Restoration

Phoslock (lanthanum-modified clay) provides an unmatched technology to reset the eutrophication clock (aging process) of waterbodies by removing free reactive phosphorus (FRP) and restoring water quality. Phoslock offers a new solution to Reset the Clock by specifically targeting and removing phosphorus inputs.

Rapid and Permanent Phosphorus Removal

How to Apply Phoslock

Poor water quality and accelerated eutrophication are some of the negative results that can occur due to elevated phosphorus levels in ponds. The results of a Phoslock treatment program are reduced phosphorus levels, improved water quality and decelerated eutrophication.

How much will I need?

The amount of Phoslock you will need depends on your water quality objectives and pond conditions. Some of the information needed to determing the total amount of product to apply includes; total phosphorous, free reactive phosphorous, historical management needs, age of the pond, size and depth of the pond, etc.

Application

For best results, mix Phoslock into an aqueous slurry and apply the slurry evenly over the surface of the pond resulting in a temporary cloudy appearance of the water. Repeat applications may be necessary based on phosphorus levels in the pond and phosphorus inputs from in-coming water. Phoslock is not an algaecide. If an algae bloom is present, treat with Captain* Algaecide prior to a Phoslock application.
